Predestination: All becomes confused

“When predestination shifts away from Christ to creature, all becomes confused.  All becomes a “mathematical formula”.
-Stanley Nelson

This Sunday we begin our series on Ephesians.  We start with a huge concept that informs all of our understanding of who God is and God’s view of us.  The word “predestination” is, at a minimum, a difficult concept, and for many of us, it is downright confusing.  Does God choose who gets to go to heaven?  Does God choose good things for some people and bad things for others?  I think about this every time there is a tragedy like the Movie Theater shootings.  Some people lived and other died.  Some even seemed to be miraculously saved (click here for one story).  But what about the 12 that died?  Why didn’t they get a “miracle”?  Who gets the miracle and who doesn’t?  Is that random chance?  Does God actually plan everything out to work in a specific way?  What are your initial thoughts on this subject?

Sunday we will have a conversation about the first part of this idea–Does God predestine (choose) some people to go to heaven, thereby “choosing” some people to go to hell?

To begin the conversation we’ll have on Sunday, check out Ephesians 1:1-14 (click here to read it).

  3. I do enjoy the way you have presented this specific issue plus it does indeed offer us a lot of fodder for consideration. Nonetheless, through what I have personally seen, I simply just trust when the actual commentary pile on that people today keep on point and don’t start upon a tirade of some other news du jour. All the same, thank you for this fantastic point and although I do not go along with the idea in totality, I regard your viewpoint.
